Amnesia: Rebirth will be a “horror that evolves over time”, according to its creators
After years, the series Amnesia will finally gain a new chapter, in the form of Amnesia: Rebirth. And the Frictional Games, the studio that created the series, commented on what path it intends to follow with the new game.
According to Thomas Grip, creative director of Frictional, the first game of the series, The Dark Descent had a huge reception thanks to the popularization of gameplay videos on Youtube at the time, mainly because of the jumpscares that the game caused. However, the studio doesn’t want to repeat the formula for the new game.
According to him, the theme of the first game was the nature of “human evil”, but the theme ended up being hidden by the screams of the Let’s Play videos. Because of that, rebirth will be a game whose horror “will evolve with time”, following the recipe of Sum, last horror game from Frictional.
The studio’s goal is to rescue this theme, in a different way, and turn it into the main element of the game, which will be built over time, not something that is forgotten with the first scare, or something that is left aside with a terror that develops quickly.
still quoting Sum, he commented that the studio should put the player in the shoes of the protagonist, within the situation that he will live in the game and make the players immerse themselves in the story. As for when the terror will reach its peak, Grip commented that it will be halfway through the game. And from then on, things will be pretty intense!
Amnesia: Rebirth arrives in the second half of this year, with versions for SQUARE and Playstation 4. Although the game doesn’t have any new trailers, the Youtube gives Frictional Games has released several little teasers, like the ones you can watch above!
