Android 12 – Google releases QPR3 Beta 1

Earlier this week, Google released the Android Security Bulletin for March 2022 with the Pixel Feature Drop. Android 12L/12.1 was also launched. Now Google has released another beta, Android 12 QPR3 Beta 1, which will be automatically distributed to all devices in the beta program. This is a beta of the June Feature Drop.

Yesterday evening, Reddit announced that the Android 12 beta program is entering a new round. These are quarterly platform releases (QPR), which are delivered to the pixel phones as part of the feature drop.

Beta 1 (S3B1.220218.004) includes functionality and user experience improvements, as well as the latest bug fixes, optimizations, and the March 2022 security patches.

After the stable release of Android 12 for AOSP, we continue to update the platform Corrections and improvements, which are then deployed to supported devices. These releases occur quarterly via Quarterly Platform Releases (QPRs) delivered as part of Feature Drops to AOSP and Google Pixel devices.

While these updates do not include API changes that affect the app, we provide images of the latest QPR beta builds so you can test your app against those builds if you need to.

Unlike developer previews for unreleased versions of Android, these builds are for general use. However, please check all known issues listed on this pageif restrictions apply.

QPR3 Beta 1 is available for Pixel 4, 4a, 5, 5a, 6 and 6 Pro. Pixel 3a/XL Beta users will instead receive a final update to the March official public release SP2A.220305.012.

I think this is the 12L Beta 4 that Google previously said was coming to the Pixel 6 series.

Anyone interested in participating in the beta can do so through the Android Beta Program. Manual flashing is also possible:

With the Android 12 QPR3 Beta 1, the regular, stable Android 12L/12.1 operating system can now be used as well as the developer previews of Android 13.

All beta users will now receive the QPR3 Beta 1, but not the final version of Android 12.1. Anyone who unsubscribes from the beta program will lose all data as a factory reset is performed.

Devices that have manually loaded the Android 13 DP1 in the meantime and are registered for the beta program have also received the QPR3 Beta 1 update via OTA. However, this is a bug and not intended behavior. The QPR3 Beta 1 should not additionally for Android 13 DP1 to be installed. Google is working on a fix.
