Apple enables the iBeacons feature in 254 Apple Store

From today Apple has enabled the new iBeacons function, a useful service for payments and merchandise management on iOS, in 254 Apple Stores.

During this week, Apple tested this functionality in the Apple Store on Fifth Avenue by installing about 20 iBeacon transmitters, recording a huge success.

Transmitters use a form of Bluetooth technology rather than GPS, since it works best when connections need to be made a few meters away. Unlike traditional Bluetooth, Bluetooth Low Energy technology has a “range” of approximately 50 meters and uses less energy, which means it will not create a noticeable drop in the battery of users using this feature.

Thanks to the function iBeacon, customers who enter an Apple Store will be able to receive some alerts on their devices that show the offers of the day, the prices of nearby products and related information.

This is only a possible application of iBeacon, in fact you can ask for assistance directly through your device and Apple employees will know exactly where you are in the Store thanks to a micro localization system.

We do not know when this function will arrive in Italy but we are sure that it is not far away.
