Apple hires Ari Partinen, an engineer who worked on Nokia’s PureView cameras
On Twitter, Ari Partinen, an engineer who worked on cameras for Nokia, confirmed that he is leaving Nokia for Apple.
Apple’s iPhone cameras are considered some of the best on the market, but Nokia’s PureView cameras have been widely praised for producing images up to 38 megapixels in format.
Partinen held a role for the “Lumia family” for about a year. His LinkedIn profile says he specializes in image quality and camera module tuning. Partinen is credited as the author of a paper on PureView technology, which captures more megapixels, in order to improve image quality.
Partinen is also responsible for a document on the Lumia 1020, which details how PureView technology works in a less technical way. Prior to his position for Lumia, Partinen brought the imaging camera to Nokia as a ‘Design Senior Engineer’ since March 2007. Partinen says he will start at Apple next month. His new role and position within Apple are not yet known, although – given his previous work – it seems likely that he will work on future iPhone cameras.
