Do you really know the X-Men? At BestyGames Comics Today, we invite you to check out some curious facts about our favorite mutants.
You X-Men were created in 1963 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, and are one of the most iconic and superhero groups of all time, being instantly recognizable wherever they go, being loved by some and hated by others (with this more specific hatred in the comics, of course).
Its impact on the world of comics has been significant, even generating a successful onslaught in the world of cinema. the franchise X-Men has already spawned a string of box office hits and spinoffs. Here you’ll find some of the most mind-blowing facts about the mutants, who recently featured the 1992 team’s return to the delight of the nostalgic.
1- Professor Xavier has already had a crush on Jean Gray as a teenager
With so many mutants living under the same roof, it’s no surprise when some of them end up falling in love and maintaining a relationship over the years. However, one of the strangest novels came very early in its history in the pages of X-Men #4.
During a single arc, it was revealed that the Professor Charles Xavier (who must have been 40 years old) fell in love with the young woman Jean Gray, a girl who was probably not more than 15 or 16 years old (pedophilia alert). Just reading to understand (or not).
2- Magneto and Professor Xavier should be brothers
Yes, you read that right my dear reader: Magneto it’s the Professor Xavier should be brothers, second Stan Lee revealed in a 2008 interview that our dear Mr. Lee claims he never saw Magneto as a villain and I wanted to play him and Xavier part of the same family. For some reason, this never happened, but it certainly would have created an interesting dynamic (and confused the entire character system you already know).
3- The Merry Mutants
When Stan Lee started to create the X-Men beside Jack Kirby, his plan was to call our dear mutants “The Merry Mutants“. And (fortunately) the people from Marvel he was not so enthusiastic about the idea and they asked his uncle Stan rethink the title, which made the heroes receive the name we know as X-Men. Although the concept of X-Gene would only be introduced a little further on, Charles Xavier is quoted in the first edition as giving the team this name because they have EXtra power! (ba-dun-tzz).
4- Professor Xavier and his twin sister
Grant Morrison is one of those “love it or hate it” writers. your bow to X-Men led to a lot of changes to the characters and their stories, plus it included a lot of weird moments. In this story it was discovered that Charles Xavier he had a twin sister, whom he murdered in the womb (???) upon detecting her evil mind, and despite all that, Cassandra created a new body for you (“thank you” Grant Morrison!).
5- Wolverine and Cyclops really hate each other
Everyone is tired of knowing that the relationship of Wolverine and Cyclops it was always tense, especially as they were both passionate about Jean Gray (which in my opinion is in my top 5 most annoying mutant!).
The two have become friends over the years, though, but that longstanding tension has surfaced in the pages of Schism. The two even came to blows in an actual fight that nearly killed each other. And after that, they both lived in mutual hatred that only ended when Logan died! (and no, that’s not a spoiler).
6- X-Men #1 is the best-selling edition of all time!
That the 90s are a strange time for comic books, we already know, but at least the industry has grown a lot during this time. You X-Men, in particular, were a very hot product at the time, and so, after so many years, the first edition (of the series that started in 1991) remains one of the best sellers in history!
The edition holds the world record, and the chances that it will ever be surpassed seem unlikely. After all, the latest addition to the top 10 bestselling comics was Amazing Spider-Man #1, who sold 533 thousand copies compared to this X-Men #1 with your more than 7 million copies sold. The best part about such high sales is that it’s surprisingly easy to find a copy on eBay for a reasonable price, without suffering as much as first edition searches do.
7- Magneto is not father of Mercury and the Scarlet Witch
In recent years, the Marvel have developed a very bad habit of changing their stories to reflect what’s happening in the movies, to make their titles easier for new readers to understand, but end up alienating long-term fans in the process.
With Mercury and Scarlet Witch cast to appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron like inhumans, it was recently revealed that the Magneto he went to Mouse and found out that he is not the father of any of the twins. And this confuses even more, but to do what?
8- The first homosexual marriage in the comics was mutated
This edition of X-Men made headlines around the world in 2012, when the first *** marriage in comic book history was introduced. This occurred between Northstar (a superhero who also made headlines two decades earlier, when the Marvel that he was ***) and his partner Kyle.
The plot was widely praised for embracing diversity after *** marriage was legalized in some US states. It was convenient that this agenda had its place in the pages of X-Men, as prejudice against mutants has often been compared to people’s prejudice against the LGBT community.
Did you know any of these facts? All of them? Or didn’t know of any? Now it’s time for us to talk, as well as check your opinions on this matter and our column, which is very important. 🙂
