Today, Activision Publishing, Inc along with developer Bungie showed the first sneak peak of their partnership. Destiny is an ambitious evolution of the first-person action genre that places gamers in a shared world. The result of a large-scale collaboration between Activision, the publisher of franchises such as Call of Duty and Skylanders, and Bungie, the makers of Halo®, is Destiny.

Destiny combines Bungie’s signature vast scope of sci-fi storytelling and adventure with first-person action elements set in an unfolding cinematic online universe. In addition, Destiny provides a social gaming experience for the consoles by delivering a world for gamers to explore, coupled with vibrant social spaces, and sharing adventures alone or with friends.

“Bungie defined first-person action games more than a decade ago with Halo, and with Destiny, the genre will evolve again,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. “Destiny is a world that evolves. It is a world of wide boundaries that allows you to roam and explore. It’s a world where, even in story mode, you can meet other players on their own adventures. And, of course, this is a world that brings it all with the passion and immediacy of an expertly crafted first-person action game. We are very excited to bring this ambitious, innovative and creative game to players around the world. “

Set in the distant future, Destiny places players as guardians of the last city on Earth. They traverse ruins of our solar system; From the red dunes of Mars to the jungles of Venus. With the ability to wield incredible power, players will battle the enemies of humanity to recover everything lost during the collapse of humanity’s golden age.

Set in a story-driven universe, Destiny’s story unfolds by engaging gamers in a daring new world, filled with cooperative, competitive, public and social activities that blend seamlessly. Bungie’s new next-generation engine brings Destiny to life on both Microsoft’s xbox360 video game and entertainment system and the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, as well as other future consoles.

“Destiny is the game we’ve dreamed of making for years. We couldn’t be more pleased with the extraordinary collaboration with Activision. We finally have the right partner, team and technology to bring the experience to millions of players around the world,” said Harold Ryan, Bungie president. “Destiny will draw players into a world of mystery, action and adventure, but most importantly, Destiny is more than a disc in a console, it’s a living social universe filled with other players.”

“Not only does Destiny look great, but the new living world will change the way players think about cooperative online gaming,” said global retailer GameStop president Tony Bartel. “This is exactly the kind of innovation the gaming industry has been waiting for and I look forward to experiencing the vast universe of Destiny for players.”
