Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

It seems like a world since E3 was held and not even a month has passed, but we continue to offer you new impressions of games that we were able to try at the fair, and now it is the turn of one of the most followed titles by the community , Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.

After trying and telling you great games from the likes of Metro: Exodus, V-Rally 4, Just Cause 4, Control, Kingdom Hearts III, the winner of the Game Critics Awards Resident Evil 2 or Ghost of Tsushima, among others, now comes the turn of a whole Call of Duty, which returns another year to cutting-edge technology – not futuristic – after a previous installment that took us to World War II.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will possibly be one of the best selling games of 2018 and that fact will change my impressions little, but if you want to know what I thought of the game after trying it at the fair in Los Angeles and playing some good games, then read on.

Testing the multiplayer of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

Perhaps this headline is a bit of a truism, because… what else were we going to try if this installment of CoD is going to do without offline campaign for the first time? A decision that has raised blisters, although the great mass of players will be delighted with the new modes and the enhancement of an online that, as I say, moves millions every year.

At the Activision booth at E3 we had the opportunity to try out various game modes in team matches. A total of four game modes and four mapsthree of them – Contraband, Payload and Seaside – already shown in the presentation of the game and a novelty: Frequency. There will be eight maps that will arrive at launch, while the famous Nuketown will arrive a little later.

Despite not having a campaign to use, Activision will offer a certain narrative in its multiplayer, connections between each specialist, with some cinematic scenes before and after the games and a certain connection between the characters and the modes, including the famous Zombie mode that Apparently you will enjoy more depth.

Tested game modes

The modes tested have been Smuggler, Domination Hotspot and Team Deathmatch. I will briefly explain what each one consisted of:

Smuggling it was about defending the zones and preventing the opposing team from conquering them. There is a set time and score, and we had to defend, scoring points if we successfully expelled the invader. In the end we won because time ran out and we managed to keep a couple of areas with a lot of suffering.

For your part Hotspot Try to enter an area marked on the map and stay in it, thus earning points for our team, which must always remain completely inside to score. Very funny.

Domain It consists of a classic, capturing three zones from the opposing team and defending ours on the map, little innovation here, but a classic that never hurts in an online shooter.

Finally Team Duel It is another classic where you kill the members of the opposing team and the one who achieves the most deaths wins.

The playable sensations

We have found well-designed maps and a fairly classic gameplay, without futuristic weapons or soldiers running on walls and making super jumps, something that personally did not convince me.

We will have great options of personalization of the character by choosing his class, weapons, power-ups… we can carry a limited number of elements and power-ups.

In addition, then we are given the possibility of choose the character, which also offers various abilities such as a radar to temporarily see through walls or drop approach mines. It is about giving it a point of variety so that it is difficult to see two identical soldiers and that the games are more varied.

The games have been very freneticwith a very rapid appearance in small levelsif they kill us right away we are in action and that for someone as bad as me is to be appreciated.

The skill of the player is key, we can slide and with losing streaks accessing new abilities, even calling in airstrikes, so having a good player on your team really makes a difference and those rewards make you want to keep leveling up and wanting to become a better player.


It has been a brief contact, and there is still much to prove in this Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, but one thing has become clear to us: Activision is going to bet heavily on returning the old sensations that made the saga something great.

I liked the reduction and detail of the maps, the great customization options and the possibilities and rewards for improving. In addition, the fact that the game is going to have free maps and that it includes a Battle Royale (Blackout) makes it a title to keep in mind in the coming months.

Graphically more or less the usual, fluid and generally attractive, although some animations bet more on speed than realism. The fans will be delighted, that’s for sure.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 12.
