A look at the stars gives you an idea of the vastness out there. An astronomical clock can be helpful to find your way in the vast expanses. For centuries it has given the time, the position of the sun, phases of the moon and constellations. Now such a watch is also available in digital form. Cosmic Watch, an app through time and space.
Unless you are interested in astronomy, you shouldn’t have too much knowledge about it. The earth is a sphere, it rotates around the sun, the moon rotates around the earth and there are different phases of the moon, signs of the zodiac and constellations. A few planets are also still known. This is where the knowledge usually ends. But a look at the stars is pretty great; It is not for nothing that many as children had shining stars on the ceiling or even a star projector in their children’s rooms.
You now start the Cosmic Watch app and allow it to access your media and your location. Then you will find our globe in the vastness of space on your display. Your location (however several 100 km away from your actual location), the current time and the date are shown on the right-hand side of the display. The globe can be moved and rotated with the swipe of a finger.
On the left half of the display there are buttons for switching from cosmic to digital time, from constellations and planets, to the signs of the zodiac as well as the year with its months and the associated position of the sun, moon and other planets.
You can use the settings button to change the time display by switching the seasons on or off. You can also change the months, the time from digital to analog and switch on a display of the seconds. Under the Guides option, you can also choose a compass, a display of the cardinal points, the planet names, the connections, the celestial rings and the equator coordinates. You can also change the view of the earth by displaying all clouds, choosing a graphic or outlines view.
Furthermore, the sky settings can be changed by showing the star constellations, the stars in long exposure, the stars with fog and haze, or a view of the entire sky filling the screen or just a view in the middle of the display.
Use the three dots on the right of the display to open or close the settings (in the case of a full-screen view) or to add or deactivate the setting options (in the case of a central view of the globe). Another button is the clock button at the bottom right. With this you change the time and date to see how the planetary constellation was or will be at a certain time. A time jump of several seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months up to a year can also be made using the forward and backward buttons. Immediately the planets and stars begin to move and show their location at the time you choose. Click on the NOW button to get back to real time.
Furthermore, if required, a topocentric (point tied to a location on the surface of a celestial body) or a geocentric (tied to a center of gravity) display of the globe.
As soon as you tap a point on the globe with your finger, you will see the location and the current time there. Use the plus button behind a selected location to add it to your favorites so that you can call it up again more quickly.
To take a screenshot, briefly tap the red circle on the right edge of the screen. The resulting screenshot of the current star constellation can now be saved or shared.
With the Cosmic Watch app you not only get the normal time at your current location, but this app simply offers more and, above all, is really interesting. An interactive 3D real-time world clock, an interplay of astronomy and calendar, a world machine with the movement of the celestial bodies, a solar system simulator, a journey through time into past years and much more.
We now also have a little goodies for our readers. The first 10 comments under this article on BestyGames receive a promo code for the app from us, with which you can download the app for free. Please make sure that your email address is stored at Disqus so that we can write to you.
