It’s been so many years since the last time a human-swallowing monster, Blob, bring terror and decompensation in our lives. Time, evidently, has led to the redemption of certain creatures that today, with the same name, show themselves in a different dress and in a completely revisited context. If we give it life to a rubbery being and add a little charisma and a lot of color, what comes out is a nice and charismatic “Blob”.
A sequel in color
There is not much to expect in the second chapter of Blob. Aside from a world infested with greyness, a long-standing enemy to whom we can’t wait to give a good grooming and many little beings like us to be saved from the spell of the one-color that they were hit by.
The game is mainly based on the charisma of the character, always ready to show off as a true super hero, and on coloring as much as I can the buildings, the walls and everything that happens to us in the various settings in which we take part.
The rise to power of the Black Companion, our archenemy, and his evil plan have taken over the island that is the object of our adventure and his only thought is to bring terror and submission among the inhabitants of the city. His weapon is not the common one seen in the worst war scenarios, but that of a world without color, punctuated by uniform gray tones of a lifeless future.
To us the arduous sentence of restoring order to the sound of colors … and some beating. In the good sense of the word, it is clear. In fact, the only method by which we will be able to defeat the various enemies that will lend themselves in front of our path is to jump on them, literally crushing them.
In this way we will not actually kill our rivals, but rather we will dye them in the color that will cover our skin, freeing them from the slavery of gray. Mechanics very similar to that seen in other more famous titles where the enemy, basically, is just a friend of ours imprisoned by a foreign body.
For fun, but watch out for boredom
De Blob 2 acts mainly as a pastime rather than a real game in its own right, showing the player a simplistic puzzle game whose difficulty substantially pours into the time available to complete the scenario.
In front of the objectives to be followed and the “artistic” choices to be taken into account, the game leave a free interpretation of the color world that we would like to see, allowing the cute protagonist to color himself, and color, as we please.
They will also be present side missions thanks to which you can earn points to boost our gummy friend, but nothing without which it is not possible to continue our adventure.
A young and not at all pretentious audience he will surely find it fun to color everything around him, without giving too much weight to the solid mechanics in the combat phase and to the view that is not too free as it should be. The most enchanting part the musical association remains with each colored object, creating real musical bases according to our speed and skill in painting.
Admirable is the thin line that suggests a certain education in the choice of colors, since some of them will be obtained only by mixing them with others, and that sense of morality hidden in the plot of the game, namely that, without colors, the world and life in general they would be sad and monotonous.
A similar attention, projected into the combat system and into a more fluid character with a perhaps more defined body, would have allowed the monotony that stands in the air to step aside, leaving room for color even towards those sporadic adults who, by force majeure, will find themselves commanding a charismatic, but alas not enough, rubbery ball named Blob.
