At Poznań Game Arena 2016, Microsoft released several Xbox One with the Dead Rising 4 demo launched. There were no crowds on the first day, so I could play a few games of Capcom’s game. In the latest installment, we again play the role of the progenitor of the series – photographer Frank Westem. Frank is unlucky to find himself again at the center of a major epidemic that has hit the town of Willamette, Colorado.
This time we are going to get a huge open world where you can travel freely. The demo allowed to play for 11 minutes and then restarted. This time allowed me to quarrel a few hundred zombies crowded in the streets of the city. As before, we get all kinds of deadly toys. There are a lot of objects that we can hit everyone around, e.g. an electric ax, a crossbow with exploding flares, rifles, baseball sticks. There will also be more futuristic inventions, such as an exoskeleton that allows you to tear zombies to pieces, tear parking meters and lift heavy objects. Of course, fans of more original items can use laptops, keyboards or boxing gloves. The liquid nitrogen spray worked well. You can use it to freeze zombies and then kick them into pieces with a kick. Motoring fans will enjoy the possibility of driving a variety of deadly vehicles. The Shock Gokart is a real tank for hordes of the dead.
The new generation means a much larger number of enemies on the screen. There is a lot of rotten meat, but it is not too much of a challenge. During the demo, I met one more demanding opponent – a soldier with a flamethrower. Dying Light fans may not necessarily find themselves in this production. In Techland’s game from Wrocław, even a few zombies at the right moment could be a threat. In Dead Rising 4, normal undead thresh fabulously straight. The tailcoat does not get tired, and there is a lot of ammunition and means for destruction. Certainly, the difficulty level will increase as the story progresses, but to judge it, you have to wait for the final version of the game. During the game, the mission was to collect evidence. Of course, Frank, as a thoroughbred photographer, created documentation using an SLR camera.
The game can de-stress and amuse, but the demo was basically a youthful one. Threshing, although honey, may get bored quickly. It remains to keep fingers crossed for the creators of the production to create an interesting, addictive story and numerous varied tasks. Otherwise, the title will end with Mafia III grades. I’m a bit scared of the graphics and hope it was the fault of poor monitors or early production. The production looked as if it had no anti-aliasing (the edges were jagged), and the image was displayed in 720p resolution. As for the smoothness of the animation, it’s pretty good. Although there were a lot of zombies, I did not notice the gross loss of cages. The screenshots below are from the producer’s website and they look like they are from a different game;)
Dead Rising 4 will debut on December 6 on Xbox One and PC. Despite small concerns about the plot and graphics, I am still looking forward to the adventures of Frank Westem.
