DOOM: how to unlock classic levels

Is it possible to play Doom inside Doom? Sure, the Bethesda guys had the brilliant idea of insert the ability to unlock secret levels within the game, with the settings of the first game, released in 1993. Let’s see together how to unlock them.

Each of DOOM’s thirteen missions features a secret level. Pulling a lever, usually hidden from the main path, will open a secret door, inside which the same map you are playing will develop, with the same enemies, but with the graphics of the first DOOM. Each of these levels can then be replayed individually from the appropriate position in the main menu of the game.

Below you will find a description of the positions of the levers and doors.

Level 1

• Lever – After opening the blue gate and descending on the path to the left, keep to the left and below you will see the top of a yellow cylindrical structure with a fan inside. Drop under it, enter the bounded area that surrounds it and pull the lever.
• Door – From the lever, go right.

Level 2

• Lever – After restoring energy and dropping yourself to the lower level, follow the path until you find two large crates. Eliminate the enemies in the area and climb on the crates, then reach the narrow path above (where you will also find an armor boost) and continue to the big screen. Hold on to the left railing and jump to a small ledge above, then climb up to find the lever.
• Door – The secret area is under the lever, so drop down on the passage you came from and go under the screen to find it.

Level 3

• Lever – From the starting position, jump the opening to the left, cross the bridge, turn right and go about halfway across the next bridge. On the left you will see a square platform, the lever is on the edge closest to the lava flow.
• Door – From the lever, continue along the bridge and you will find the door open beyond the small lava flow.

Level 4

• Lever – Climb the slope from the rune and you’ll find the lever behind some containers near the end of the platform on the left
• Door – The door is on the right side of the room with the pentagram on the floor which you will find shortly after pulling the lever.

Level 5

• Lever – After one of the fights in the tower you will arrive in the next area with some cargo drones. Find the one with the blue lights, the lever is at the top of its path.
• Door – Go back down with the drone, go down and wait for it to go up again, then enter the hole that housed it to find the door.

Level 6

• Lever – In the area where you first encountered the Barons of ****, there is a tunnel on the opposite side of the area from the exit, the lever is at the bottom of it.
• Door – From the lever, go to the exit. Before you get there, drop to the left of the stone bridge to find the door below.

Level 7

• Lever – After exiting the lab, kill the Cacodemon and jump to the platform above. Examine the area behind the freighter to find the lever.
• Door – From the lever, go down to the area with the pillar with the number 1 on it to find the door.

Level 8

• Lever – After lowering the force field of the freighter, go around the passage but jump to the ledge above. Jump to the rocks to the left and onto the pipes, then drop to the metal platform below.
• Door – From the lever go back to the previous blood nest area, you will find the door on the far wall.

Level 9

• Lever – When you reach the circular room after activating the Helix Stone, turn right at the bottom of the stairs, you will find the lever in the right corner.
• Door – Drop into the opening in the center of the room.

Level 10

• Lever – After opening the yellow door and clearing the room beyond it, go up and flip the switch. To the right of the entrance you came from, an alcove containing the lever will open.
• Door – Pulling the lever will open the passage you came from again. Go up the stairs, go right, and at the bottom of the stairs go right again. In the next room you will find the door.

Level 11

• Lever – After getting the yellow skull, head into the alcove to the right of the teleporter to find the lever in the flames.
• Door – Go back to find the door to the right of the Argent Cell.

Level 12

• Lever – In the warehouse of access to sector P, behind the crates on which the Elite Guard rests.
• Door – After pulling the lever, go back, turn right in the maintenance corridor and follow it all the way to the end.

Level 13

• Lever – Take the path opened by the second secret switch. The lever will be right in front of you after you climb a ledge in the passage.
• Door – The door is immediately to the right of the lever.
