Square Enix has posted a new career opportunity announcement on looking for a Battle Planner for the next Final Fantasy VII Remake.
The work tells quite a bit about how the Business Division 1 team (which is also working on Mobius Final Fantasy) is approaching development, as well as other interesting information.
A remake with a new Final Fantasy flavor
First of all, we know that the team points to a “new creation” that is not simply a remake. The project is in a large-scale development to create “a game that surpasses the original” Final Fantasy VII.
This is, according to the announcement, “in a more challenging sense than creating new games” and it is work that has an impact on the world and growth as a creator. This implies “create a new view of the world while protecting familiar concepts for players”.
Since the team is working with the goal of “creating a quality game that improves on the original” they are still recruiting internal development staff.
While it may seem like development is just planned or in its infancy, it doesn’t have to be. It is normal in the video game industry for development teams working on large projects to hire top-tier developers or even occasionally development managers until the last few months of development. The closer you are to launch, the higher the workload and the more people you will needl, as well as leaders to direct them.
Interestingly, the job involves work on a battle system that combines commands and action, design enemies and bosses, and plan the environment according to the player’s growth. The game will be “a new Final Fantasy with action elements added to the additional strategy.”
The development family grows
We have also known that “staff members who worked on numerous Final Fantasy games have joined the team one after another” and doing so is “an opportunity to create a new Final Fantasy that doesn’t end with just the remake.” This likely means that the candidate who lands the job will have a chance to move on to new Final Fantasy games after the remake releases.
Lastly, we have a testimonial from Level Planners Yui Sawada and Yuri Hioki who are working on the game. They have mentioned that it is a real pleasure to work on the title as planners, constantly being involved at all levels of development from concept to implementation, and that it is interesting to be so deeply involved while being in charge of the content, and even the normal work like proofreading, that’s why they feel like creators.
Specifically, Final Fantasy VII Remake is a project that brought together developers who have been influenced by the original and is the result of uniting everyone’s “strong passion”. Of course, there is the pressure of having to overcome a work of art, and that is very nice. While they value the worldview that users have, they aim to revolutionize preconceived notions. With the feeling of creating a complete new game, they would like to release a title that makes you say “that’s it!”
few details
Square Enix has kept the project a handy mystery. Earlier in the year we learned that development on the game is progressing smoothly, and later we learned that they were looking for some more development staff. It is clear that they continually seek to increase the squad to achieve that high goal they are aiming for.
Further back, we were able to see some images of the game in addition to being able to know other details.
Final Fantasy VII Remake has been officially announced only for PlayStation 4 and at the moment it does not have a date or even a release window. Will we see it more in detail this 2018? Personally, I hope so.
