First Metal Gear is being recreated as FPS on the classic Doom engine

The modder’AutumnAPM‘ released the first demo of Metal Gear: Doom and as the name suggests, this new interpretation transforms the classic that gave life to the subgenre of Stealth Action on a FPS. The game will be based on stealth and shooting and is being developed with the tech id 1 engine, same as the classic doom, and the idea is to recreate the first Metal Gear with an 8bit art style.

The first demo is in alpha stage and gives us a glimpse of what the finished game could become. Basically, modder wants to convert all maps from Metal Gear in MSX so that they become an experience like doom, but as a new HUD and with the addition of some sprites.

Of course, not everything can be just recreated, for example, the enemies’ artificial intelligence has to be thought of for this new game mode, as well as the way the story will be adapted. A change in graphics engine inevitably generates numerous other problems.

There is no date for the full version of the mod/remake to be released, but either way it’s an interesting work that might please fans of Metal Gear it’s from doom. For those interested, the download is available here.
