Last year, former Ubisoft Massive developers left the studio and created their own: Sharkmob.
Now, in an interview with VentureBeat, the studio has advanced its first game. This will be a multiplayer title based on a currently undisclosed “cult classic IP”.
Sharkmob, which is based in Malmö, is made up of several developers who worked on The Division. This includes your Game Director, Technical Director, IP Director, and Art Director. It’s a shame they’re not around to develop their just-announced sequel, but hopefully they’ll be able to tell us more about their game soon.
Cult classic IP, but few details
For now, we only know what is on the studio’s website and what they have talked about in the interview. The website tells us that the game has an editor, it will probably be cross-platform and rated M (mature, for adults), and that he is developing with Unreal Engine 4.
In the interview, CEO Fedrick Rundqvist said that are working on an IP license that he describes as a “cult classic”. He also talked about more details on why the game will be more focused on multiplayer and why they chose that IP:
We’re not really interested in making a traditional single player type of game. What we play in private, the kind of games we like, they are very social, very competitive, always multiplayer. The more, the better. Of course, in our opinion, the pure mechanics of this aren’t interesting if you don’t have the right IP, the right setup, the right fantasy to get people excited about the game mechanics that we give. I think that also gives a clue about the kind of game we’re making.
We will have to wait a little longer to get to know this game in depth. What IP do you think they are referring to? We will be attentive to any news.
