OnePlus Nord 2 – design / appearance

The OnePlus Nord 2 is available in the colors Blue Haze, Gray Sierra and Green Wood. Our model in Blue Haze has a shiny blue shade. The slightly raised triple camera module with LED flash is located on the back at the top left. The OnePlus logo is in the middle. In the top view on the left you will find the volume button, on the right you will find the power button and alert slider. The SIM card slot, USB Type-C charging port and the lower speaker are on the underside.

The display has a minimal black border, which is slightly larger on the chin than on the top. The display merges seamlessly with the rear. The fingerprint sensor is embedded in the bottom center of the display and the front camera is in a punch hole in the top left. Another loudspeaker is located above in the middle. A screen protector is applied at the factory.

OnePlus Nord 2 – Setup / Operating System / Settings

Setup is quick and easy. After logging into your WLAN, you specify whether data should be copied, you want to control the Google Assistant via Voice Match or you want to participate in the OnePlus customer satisfaction program. Then you set up the fingerprint sensor under the display and select the font. The navigation bar (buttons or gestures) can also be adjusted. Then the device is ready.

All Google apps are on board, there is no bloatware. Only the Netflix app is preinstalled as well as some OnePlus apps such as community, copy phone, file manager, weather and notes.

In the settings of the device you can, for example, downscale the screen refresh rate from 90 Hz to 60 Hz, change the background, replace the navigation gestures with the navigation buttons, set up Face Unlock and much more. You can read about other setting options in previous reports.

The OnePlus Nord N2 has Android 11, OxygenOS 11.3 installed ex works. The security patch is from June 2021. The Nord 2 will receive two OS updates and three years of security updates. There was a system update with some improvements during use.

OnePlus Nord 2 – display / performance

The OnePlus Nord 2 has a 6.43 inch Fluid AMOLED display with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels. This results in a very good pixel density of 410 ppi. The aspect ratio is 20: 9, the refresh rate 90 Hz. Colors, brightness and contrasts are displayed very well or adapt automatically to the external conditions. The readability in the open air is also given by the Smart Ambient Display, which is activated automatically.

The MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI works under the hood. This is supported by (in our case) 12 GB RAM and 256 GB ROM. With this and also with the refresh rate of 90 Hz, a clean, jerk-free performance is given. Apps and games open and close quickly, scrolling is buttery smooth. With the MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI, the Nord 2 has a powerful chipset, which can be put on a similar level to the Snapdragon 870. A better camera, video and display experience is made possible (AI Resolution Boost

OnePlus Nord 2 – speaker / sound

A dual stereo speaker is built into the OnePlus Nord 2. The sound is okay at normal volume, but the loudspeaker reaches its limits at full volume. Like other OnePlus devices, the Nord 2 offers a Dirac audio tuner. With this, scene-based improvements are possible: Intelligent for automatically recognized scenarios, dynamic, film and music. Telephoning works without any problems. The caller and the other party were understood well.

OnePlus Nord 2 bedroom

A triple camera is built into the OnePlus Nord 2. This triggers with 50 MP main camera (pixel binning), 8 MP ultra wide angle camera and 2 MP monochrome camera. Zooming is only done digitally (0.6x-10x). The camera app has the various functions night, video, photo, portrait and more with dual view video (front and rear cameras are used simultaneously for recordings), slow motion, timing, film, expert, extra HD and panorama above the shutter button .

In the settings of the camera app you will find the function Ultra-clear AI mode. With this you take ultra clear portraits. At the top of the camera’s screen, you can switch on the flash, HDR or AI scene recognition. There are also various filters.

Example Pictures:

Night mode images taken between 9.45pm and 11.00pm:

The images created by the OnePlus Nord 2 are good enough when there is enough light. Many details are visible, the colors are rich in contrast. When using the wide-angle lens, the edges are minimally distorted. Since the Nord 2 does not have a telephoto lens, zooming is only digital. Thus, many details are lost when using the zoom.

The selfies created with the 32 MP front camera are impressive, the portrait mode works well and cleanly separates the foreground from the background. Furthermore, the front camera offers various embellishments of large eyes, narrow noses, etc. as well as different exposures, so that you can work out enough beautiful details here as well.

The night mode of the OnePlus Nord 2 surprised me positively. In contrast to the previous models, you create very good pictures. The OnePlus Nord 2 has an ultra night mode, which automatically switches on after selecting night mode to capture even more light. Even if there is no lighting, objects can still be displayed here.

OnePlus Nord 2 – battery

A 4,500 mAh battery is permanently installed in the OnePlus Nord 2. This is charged to 100 percent within half an hour using Warp Charge 65 Plus.

OnePlus Nord 2 – conclusion

The OnePlus Nord 2 includes everything a great smartphone needs to have. The decent display size, good readability, a large memory and battery, which is quickly ready for use again, and the performance is simply great. Nothing gets stuck here, so the device can definitely be described as a flagship killer. Security updates are available for three years and version updates for two years. Only with the camera (zoom) minimal compromises have to be made.

The OnePlus Nord 2 is available with 8 GB / 128 GB of storage at a price of 399 euros from Amazon. In the storage version 12 GB / 256 GB, the device costs 499 euros at Amazon. Sales start on July 28, 2021.
