Internet is essential, here are numbers and data of the perception of Italians on the net

Internet is essential in many respects and it is considered a fundamental right to make access to the Web and network services accessible and free of charge, such as browsing social networks or service and communication platforms.

In Italy The internet is so essential that a political, economic and social project aimed at expanding access to the Internet is in motion. The Digital Agenda provides for broadband expansion actions, an increase in free wifi services in the municipalities, and an improvement in the presence of the Public Administration in the network through online services. A research carried out on a sample of 2000 people has obtained the numbers as a percentage of the perception that Italians have of the Web and access to the Internet.

The research was carried out by SWG and found that Internet is essential for 44% of the people interviewed who believe that access to the network is a fundamental need such as electricity and gas. At the same time, however, 41% believe they do not have the necessary skills to use it, 35% would like to know more and 14% feel inadequate. 51% of the people interviewed consider the Internet to be indispensable for the economic and social development of the country despite the scarce habit of using the Internet to search for online services, especially from the Public Administration.

29% of people who use PA’s online services expressed critical judgments on their structure considered too tiring and bureaucratic. There is fear of replacing blackboards and books in schools with digital tables and tablets, 30% believe it to be an important development but would like dedicated hours rather than a permanent teaching system. 29% believe the internet is essential for creating jobs or creating job opportunities.

In this context, cities, municipalities, small villages and tourist realities are involved in development of the digital agenda and in Florence, for example, today is the news of the arrival of Free Wifi in Piazza del Duomo thanks to the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore which also financed the extension of the access service. The WiFinity hotspot dedicated to Internet access in open places with large public turnout was used.
