It’s now possible to play Doom using… an old disk phone!
This time, this story is not about an unusual new platform capable of running doom, but a completely insane new controller that can be used to play doom: A disk phone!
If you were born in the 2000s or later, you may not even know what a dial phone is, but it is an old-fashioned type of phone where you had to turn a dial number by number in order to make a call. If today you dial a telephone with area code in a few seconds, in the past this was a much longer process.
And now you can use this relic of the past to play doom! Although this is probably the worst type of controller to use with the game. But… it works! Check it out:
This “control” was the creation of a boy named Greg Smith, who created it as a project using Arduino technology. He posted about his creation on Reddit, and the audience quickly raised the ultimate question: “Can I use it to play games? doom“? And the answer, as we have seen, is yes!
The most interesting thing is that this is not the first disc phone used to play the classic FPS, in 2017 another group created a phone-controller, with the suggestive and disgusting name of “Dialrhea”. Check out this controller being used to play below Doom:
Well, once again I raise the question? What will be next? It is now possible to play doom on a chainsaw, Porsche dashboard, MacBook touchbar, Digital camera, Playdate, refrigerator, Nintendo’s Game Watch, a Scientific Calculator powered by 700 potatoes, a pregnancy test via a GIF and also directly via Twitter!
