Jony Ive talks about the link between Apple and Star Wars
In Leander Kahney’s bestselling biography “NYT”, there are a lot of revelations about how Jony Ive developed the aesthetics of various Apple products, but recently we got a little more information.
Ive and industrial designer Marc Newson recently took to the media to promote a charity auction featuring the couple’s special and personalized items.
However, one item in the auction was neither designed nor modified by the couple: the Stormtrooper helmet from Star Wars, signed by George Lucas.
Why will a Star Wars helmet participate in an Apple industrial design auction?
“I grew up watching Star Wars, it was really, really informative in our vision of the future,” Ive Charlie Rose said last Friday. “This idea of having the bad guys in shiny white and shiny armor was great, we’re trying to imagine something that doesn’t exist yet.”
While this is just a small detail, it’s certainly fun to speculate on how the pristine white of Star Wars plastic armor helped shape the look of the original iPod, the white iMac, and so on.
