Metro: Last Light – New game will mix FPS with survival horror

Last year, the not-so-known producer 4A Games put the game on the market Metro: 2033, a title that received good reviews but was not necessarily a great commercial success. Continuing the franchise, the producer is already working on Metro: Last Light, game that promises many new features compared to the original.

The game takes place in the year 2034, in a post-apocalyptic Russia that was devastated by nuclear war. The protagonist of the first game – Artyom – is back, and will have to venture into the city’s underground, which are dominated by hideous mutant creatures.

Although it is primarily an FPS, this new Subway it will be much darker and in many moments it can end up with an air of survival horror, as the player will have to make do with very limited ammunition in dark scenarios full of creatures that can attack at any time.

The original game had its script inspired by a book of the same name, written by Dmitry Glukhovsky. This time, however, the script will be original, although the book has an official sequel called Metro: 2034.

Much of the game will take place in subway tunnels, as the radiation level at the surface is critical. Walls and objects in the scene can be destroyed using a wide variety of weapons.

With a campaign for just 1 player, the 4A Games guaranteed that the game will have a multiplayer mode, but did not go into much detail. For now, what we have are some gameplay videos. The first presents a kind of prologue, and shows the destruction in the city:

The next video shows gameplay in dark and claustrophobic environments:

Metro: Last Light does not have a defined release date yet, but it should only come out in 2012, with versions for SQUARE, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
