New Fallout 76 Gameplay on Character Customization, SPECIAL System, and More

During a panel at QuakeCon 2018, Bethesda’s Todd Howard has shown more scenes and information about the studio’s next game, Fallout 76.

Deeper customization

We can see the Character ID Badge feature at the end of character creation (which, according to Howard, has been improved).

This use the photo mode of the game which allows you to take a picture of the character. Also, you can change the look of your character at any time during the game.

Cards, advantages, points and more to improve

After that, the direct shows the new SPECIAL system based on hundreds of cards that you can trade and share with your teammates.

When you level up you receive a SPECIAL stat that you want to increaseand select a advantage inside it. The perk you choose is a letter and each letter has a point cost to equip depending on your power. If you choose a card a second and a third time you can combine them with the previous one and create an even more powerful version that costs more points.

There is no randomness when choosing a card when leveling up and you can choose any card that meets all the requirements. Interestingly, Charisma cards mostly influence groups (but there are also some for solo players).

Every few levels (initially every two, but then changes to five) you get a perk card pack including random cards. This gives you more interesting choices and flexibility thanks to cards you may not have intentionally chosen.

The packs also include gold cards with animations, a combination with a joke and a gum that reduces appetite for a time.

When you reach level 50 you stop getting SPECIAL points but you will still get cards. This allows players to continue to progress horizontally with more options and flexibility while limiting the power curve.

Fallout 76 will be available on November 14 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It will have a beta in a couple of months.
