The long-awaited Marvel show will be released tomorrow in cinemas in most countries around the world, including Poland. A lot has been written about “Avengers: War Without Borders”, and now we have new forecasts on the financial results for the opening weekend from American cinemas. It is speculated that Marvel’s new production in the first weekend, counting from Wednesday’s pre-premiere screenings to Sunday inclusive, will win from a minimum of USD 225 million to USD 245 million in the United States. The most optimistic forecasts estimate the results at the level of up to USD 300 million. The new “Avengers”, however, “only” need to generate ticket revenues of $ 248 million to dethrone “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and become the film with the best opening in US cinemas.
We will know the preliminary results this Sunday, but they will not be fully reliable. Disney is very reticent in estimating the results and very often underestimates them by several million, which can be crucial in the fight for a new US box office opening record. Therefore, how much really “Avengers: War Without Borders” will get the proceeds from American cinemas, we will find out only on Monday.
Results from the rest of the world are expected to be between $ 256 million and $ 263 million. So the film could bring in more than half a billion ticket revenues around the world on its opening weekend alone. We still do not know the production budget, but this is estimated at around USD 300 million and another 150-200 million for the marketing campaign.
The title of the highest-grossing superhero film in the US is “Black Panther”, which won an impressive 681 million dollars. It is also the third most profitable title in American cinemas, inferior only to “Avatar” ($ 760 million) and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” ($ 936 million). When it comes to global revenue, the first part of “Avengers” has been unbeaten since 2012, earning 1.518 billion dollars worldwide.
Everything indicates, however, that “Avengers: War Without Borders” will be very popular for a very long time, and this is also due to the good reviews of the film. One minute after midnight, the embargo on the reviews of the new Marvel show was released. There is no agreement among critics and reviewers, therefore the ratings vary. The only element that did not divide viewers is the main bad of this episode, i.e. Thanos. Josh Brolin has created a great creation, reflecting on the screen the full complexity of Thanos along with his motivations. A common voice in the case of Thanos is that he is undeniably the best opponent in the entire ten-year history of the universe.
The script is also praised, with its spectacular action scenes and exciting, surprising twists. Each of the characters gets some screen time, although there is no room in “War Without Borders” for any expansion of characters known from other Marvel movies. The production climate and the dark and serious atmosphere are also on the plus side. Feel that the events have their weight affecting the entire world created by Marvel. Most reviewers liked the humor as well, though some criticize the film for having too much of it.
“Avengers: War Without Borders” is most often blamed for the speed with which subsequent events and characters are presented, making it difficult to catch your breath, and the heroes cannot appear on the screen in their full glory, using a number of their possibilities. Critics also pointed out that people unfamiliar with the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe may feel overwhelmed by so many characters and threads on the screen, but even fans of the universe may need time to digest the film in terms of the plot and emotions evoked by the new “Avengers” .
On RottenTomatoes, the most popular review aggregator in the world, with 97 reviews, 84 are positive and 13 negative, which is 87% positive to negative. Nice result, but the best Black Panther (96%) is far behind the best in this respect. The average score from the reviews is 7.7 / 10, which is a result close to the best rated by both reviewers and viewers of Marvel films (Iron Man – 7.7, Avengers – 8, Captain America: The Winter Soldier – 7.6, Watchmen Galaxies – 7.7, Captain America: Civil War – 7.7, Spider-Man: Homecoming – 7.7 or Thor: Ragnarok – 7.5). It is also better than “Avengers: Age of Ultron” (6.7 / 10), but slightly worse than “Black Panther” (8.2 / 10).
It looks a bit worse on metacritic. There, with 39 reviews, 28 are positive, 10 are mixed (ratings from 40 to 60) and only one is negative. This gives an average grade of 68/100.
A Polish review was also published at midnight. So far, there are 13 reviews on the mediakrytyk website. All reviews are positive with an average rating of 8.2 / 10.
Everything seems to indicate that “Avengers: War Without Borders” is another Marvel hit. This long-awaited show will surely evoke extreme emotions, but you can already see that the newest part of Marvel’s superhero adventures is one of the best-rated films from the universe.
