Nintendo Switch caused a lot of controversy among players. Some people are delighted with the new equipment, while others, who are not really interested in this device, criticize and point out various disadvantages. Below, I decided to answer a few questions about the new console. The topics they cover are diverse and should dispel some doubts. If you haven’t found the answer to your question, feel free to post it in the comments and we’ll try to help.

1. Is it worth buying a Nintendo Switch?

It is difficult to answer this question because it all depends on your preferences and financial resources. If you have a Nintendo Wii U at home, you can wait and play the new Zelda on an older Japanese device (there are not as many graphic differences as you might think, as we wrote about here).

If you have a console, such as PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, you should consider buying a Switch, provided that you are into Zelda: Breath Of The Wild. Nintendo will have many completely different games compared to the competition. A lot of AAA titles available for the aforementioned devices just won’t come out on “Nina”.

Therefore, if you already have a PS4 or XONE, you can buy a Nintendo Switch as additional equipment that works great on the go.

2. Can I play games on Nintendo Switch?

Most of the titles available on the Switch will allow you to play with several people, which is not so obvious in the case of larger consoles. For example, the genre of racing can be given here. Once upon a time, the standard for PlayStation 2 was the ability to play on a split screen, and now, on the fingers of one hand, you can exchange races on PlayStation 4 with such a function.

Nintendo Switch allows you to play on a split screen, even in the tablet version. If you like to play with your friends while sitting on one couch, Nina’s equipment will surely give you a lot of fun, especially since some nice multi games will be released in April.

3. What will I start with on Nintendo Switch?

Here it must be admitted that Nintendo did average for the starting titles. The biggest game, of course, is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild with a huge open world and fun that can last up to 100 hours. The game received amazing ratings and is one of the highest rated productions ever.

For this we have a new version of the Super Bomberman R “bomb thrower”, which collects average ratings, but as always is great fun for up to 4 players.

The Switch could not miss the latest version of the dance game that has always been associated with the Nintendo brand – Just Dance 2017. It is also worth mentioning the game 1, 2, Switch presenting the possibilities of new Joy-Con controllers (the production price is a big exaggeration and it should be added for free to your device). The futuristic Fast RMX races, which are available at an affordable price of PLN 80, also look good.

Nintendo Switch starter games:

  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  • Super Bomberman R
  • 1, 2, Switch
  • Just Dance 2017
  • Skylanders: Imaginators
  • Fast RMX

In addition to the above-mentioned games, Nintendo eShop has already released several more productions. It is worth mentioning the award-winning 8-bit turkey Shovel Knight and several classics from Neo Geo (eg Metal Slug 3, Shock Troopers, World Heroes Perfect).

The digital store also offers a game for jRPG fans. I Am Setsuna is a production referring to the classics of the genre in the form of Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and Kingdom Hearts.

4. What games will be coming out soon on Switch? Is there anything to wait for?

Nintendo boasts that it will have something to play in the near future. In March, it is to debut, among others Has Been Heroes, and in April the title from Wii U Mario Kart 8 – Deluxe was highly rated (more information about the game). The console will even get sports games like Fifa, NBA 2K and Steep. Without a doubt, however, the owners of the equipment will wait the most for ARMS, Splatoon 2, Super Mario Odyssey and Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Of course, many smaller productions and turkeys will come to these larger games.

Is the line-up of games sufficient? Everyone likes something different and you have to judge for yourself if you like it. Pokemon fans will definitely be disappointed, because the game related to this universe will not come out in 2017.

The Twitter graphic below shows the biggest titles to be released in 2017:

5. What to buy PlayStation 4, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch?

I partially answered this question in point 1. It’s hard to compare Nintendo Switch to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, because they are completely different brands, presenting a different philosophy of “gaming”. There will not be many AAA games on the Switch and if you are mainly interested in such productions, it is worth buying a competitor’s device. In addition, if you do not have any PS4 and XONE consoles at home, you can buy a lot of great games at an affordable price (both used in a box and digital in nice promotions).

But what if you are primarily looking for a mobile device that is easy to transport? Then you can give the Nintendo Switch a try. The console is small and taking the whole set, even with a docking station, will not be a problem for you (especially since many hotels already have TVs with HDMI output in their rooms).

6. Does Nintendo Switch protect the image with HDCP technology?

Not. The switch does not protect the image with HDCP technology. If you want to capture an image, you won’t have to fiddle with plugging in HDMI switches, etc.

7. How to record gameplay on Nintendo Switch?

The Nintendo console has a great feature that allows you to take screenshots. It is enough to click one button and the screenshot is saved in the device memory in the blink of an eye. But what if you care about capturing the image and posting it on YouTube? The device does not have HDCP protection, so it is enough to connect it to equipment that allows you to capture and stream gameplay, such as Avermedia.

8. Did I put Strap wrong in Joy-Con? How to remove Strapa now without damaging the device?

Theoretically, everything is very clearly marked and it’s hard to get confused, but when the Strap is stuck in the Joy-Con, don’t panic. In such a situation, first of all, you need to release the white blockage:

In addition, you need to hold the black button on the back of the device that unlocks another lock. Now just move the Joy-Con in the right direction. You need to put some effort into it, because detaching this element, even when properly inserted, is not as easy as it is shown in the movies.

Remember to never try to extend Strap towards the part where the + and – symbols are present. There is a plug, as shown in the photo below:

9. Does Nintendo Switch have a web browser?

It is currently not possible to browse the internet on the device. It’s hard to say whether this is to be a deliberate procedure suggesting that the hardware is only for gaming, or simply the Switch’s operating system is not fully developed to start.

10. Does the Switch have Netflix?

There is currently no Netflix app. The Japanese announced that in the future it will be possible to watch movies on the Switch. Apparently, talks are being held with companies such as Netflix, Amazon and Hulu. The date when the new features were added is not yet known.

11. What memory card for the Switch?

A few weeks ago, a lot of information appeared on the Internet that the Nintendo Switch will fit very expensive micro SDUHS memory cards (120 GB costs about PLN 400).

However, you don’t have to buy a big and expensive card right away. The device has a built-in 32 GB of memory and it is easy to use a standard micro SDXC memory card, e.g. 64 GB, which can be pulled out around PLN 100. Personally, I recommend, among others:

  • Samsung 64GB microSDXC Evo + write 20MB / s and read 80MB / s
  • Kingston 64GB microSDXC Class10 write 10MB / s read 45MB / s – I currently use this card and so far I have no problems with it or slowdowns during the game.

A lot of games on such a card will fit. For example, Fast RMX is only 900 MB, and the biggest hit of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in the digital version weighs only 14 GB. If you run the title from the cartridge, it is not installed in the device memory and you can start the game immediately.

12. Does Nintendo have a trophy system?

Not. The Japanese have been defending themselves for several years and have not introduced it on their consoles. Trophy hunters will probably be dissatisfied, but you can still only play for fun, not virtual cups.

13. Is Nintendo Switch loud?

The Nintendo Switch makes virtually no sounds, even under heavy load. Compared to PlayStation 4, which can sometimes turn into a vacuum cleaner, it is a big plus.

14. Is the wifi antenna on the Nintendo Switch really weak?

Many people report this problem. It does appear that the Nintendo Switch does indeed have a poor wifi receiver. Standing with my copy a meter from the router, I do not have the maximum signal.
