Rage: New FPS from the creators of Doom promises innovation
THE Bethesda and the id Software are producers that have given us several great titles in the FPS genre, among which the classic franchises stand out doom, quake and Wolfenstein. Soon, these two big companies will launch rage, which promises to be a new milestone in the genre.
The game’s plot mixes reality and fiction to create a compelling post-apocalyptic environment: in the future, the asteroid Apophis – which actually exists, and should pass close to our planet in the year 2036 – crashes into the Earth, decimating a large part of the human population and drastically altering the planet’s climatic conditions. Among the remaining humans, many undergo terrible mutations, and those who escaped unscathed must fend for themselves in this new reality.
Although it reminds a lot of the series fallout for its setting, rage should distance itself from other games of the genre for its innovations: moments of shooting and action will be interspersed with stages on wheels, where the player uses huge custom buggies to get around, flee and/or chase enemies.
rage also drink a little from the source of Bioshock, as it will be possible to search the bodies of enemies in search of items and accessories. With the right equipment, the player can not only improve their weapons but create exclusive equipment, such as turret machine guns and robotic spiders armed with firearms.
The new features also apply to the character’s arsenal: in addition to the already famous boomerang and the crossbow with explosive arrows, in rage the player can create ammunition with specific utilities. It will be possible to create, for example, electrified projectiles that, when fired into the water, electrocute all opponents in it.
The game’s marketing campaign is extensive. Several videos have already been shown, and the most recent one features no less than the first 8 minutes of the game, check it out:
Produced by id Software and published by Bethesda, rage will be released in the first half of 2012, with versions for SQUARE, Mac, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
