In the world of Skyrim they are truly present lots of “builds” but none are as useful and effective as that of the stealth archer.
Unfortunately, this type of combat suffers a lot in the hand-to-hand phases, being specialized for distance fighting. To overcome the problem, you can easily improve the skills for close combat without affecting the “archery” component in any way.
The fundamental skills to be developed are archery and one-handed weapons, but there are many different combinations of skills that allow you to develop an excellent archer who is able to defend himself even in close combat.
The essential skill
To become a good archer on Skyrim, you need to fully upgrade the “Archery” skill. This ability goes hand in hand with the “Stealth” ability: in fact, hitting an enemy while in hiding will cause double damage to the victim. Not only that: a particular perk of “Stealth” allows you to triple the damage caused by a sneak attack with a bow and arrow. All this, however, can be in vain in the event that we would be forced (for reasons of quest or gameplay) to have to face an enemy from close range and therefore to have to put a hand to sword and shield.

Close combat
Being good archers does not mean having to give up in all respects the “face to face” combat: as already mentioned, you can find yourself in the situation of having to face one or more enemies closely, so the arrows will be worth very little. A good solution is represented by the classic one-handed weapon and shield: to enhance both, it will be sufficient to block the attacks of the opponents (“Block” ability) and hit the enemies with a one-handed weapon (Ax, Sword or Mace) in as many situations as possible.
The “Magicka” alternative
In addition to using the One-Handed Weapons and the Block, you can also develop a character more oriented towards the Magical Arts: whether it is the School of Destruction (with Flames or Sparks) or the use of Atronach through the appropriate scrolls or Spells, the effect is still that of being able to get out of uncomfortable situations, with the second solution particularly useful in the case of groups of large-bodied enemies. As with the other skills, these are also enhanced with respect to use, so the more enemies fought with this style, the faster you will level up, with the possibility of being able to unlock precious perks.
The “Heavy” alternative
For those who do not want to go too far and have the certainty (or almost) of taking down any enemy in a few hits, the “Two-Handed Weapons” skill is perfect: despite being very slow, these weapons inflict considerable damage compared to their counterpart. single hand. However, they have a small “flaw”: with two-handed weapons it is not possible to parry (or rather, you can, but it is not as effective as doing it with the shield) and therefore you are more exposed to enemy attacks. Having good armor can remedy the problem by limiting the damage.
A little help…
There are, within the vast world of Skyrim, Menhirs (known in game as Stones of the Guardians) that can be very useful in the development of various skills: these Stones, in fact, give boost to the learning of Skills. An example are the three Stones found near Riverwood, right at the beginning of the adventure: the Thief, Wizard and Warrior Stone, which speed up the level up of Stealth, Magic and Combat Skills by 20%. Stone bonuses can be used one at a time, so activating one immediately deactivates the one previously possessed.
