Sony patents a new PowerGlove for Playstation VR

Sony has decided to patent, for virtual reality, the new concept of an old accessory present in the beautiful 80s, Nintendo’s famous PowerGlove.

Appeared in the film “The great little wizard of Videogames”, this particular glove allowed the user to control video games using their fingers and a keypad on the back, giving the sensation of physically interacting with virtual reality. In the modern era, this interaction with all parts of the body is one of the most discussed dilemmas by the Playstation VR development team. If Sony used to rely on Move controller support, now wonders if it was possible to have a more direct approach using the player’s hands.

For this purpose the company has filed three patents for one glove reminiscent of the one already seen in the past. From what we understand, it will be equipped with tactile sensors capable of reflecting the movement of the player in the viewer that he will use, thus allowing a complete immersion. Unfortunately we do not know if this project will see the light, this is because every day many companies patent projects for inventions that most of the time end up remaining only on paper.

However, it costs nothing to hope and surely seeing a new working model of the mythological PowerGlove will bring a smile to the face of those old enough to remember.
