Sony responds to any external Blu-Ray drive for the PlayStation 5 Digital

The PlayStation 5 and the PlayStation 5 Digital are coming soon. The release is on November 19 in Europe. The difference between the standard PS5 and the Digital Edition is that the latter does not have a Blu-Ray drive. However, an external Blu-Ray player could offer a solution to still be able to play discs. After some inquiries from Evilgamerz at Sony, we got a partial answer to this question, or not… Sony says that it is not yet clear whether such an external Blu-Ray player will be available in the future that you can connect to the console. However, it is currently not expected that these peripherals will actually be available, although it is technically possible.

Unfortunately, it is currently unknown whether this option (external Blu-Ray optical drive) will be available in the future, but because a digital version of the PlayStation 5 is already being offered, it probably will not come.

Sony does not rule out 100% that an optical drive will come for the Digital, although the chance is very small and the console will most likely remain ‘digital only’. Unfortunately, they did not want to share further details with us. More details about the PS5 Digital can be found here.
