DON’T DISAPPOINT YOU
Although Seifer’s assignment as team leader may have left me disappointed and angry, I still tried, as I always do, to keep emotions and feelings inside, without letting my thoughts shine through my face. The same thing certainly cannot be said of my new friend and teammate Zell, who as soon as he heard the news started going into a rage like a kid.
Quistis: “No changes are allowed. Seifer! Where is Seifer? “
Soon he was revealed along the corridor leading to the hall of the garden, backed as always by his two henchmen, Raijin and Fujin, a thug who has always seemed to me not too smart and a smart and spiteful girl. They are always together, those three, who knows how the **** do they handle that arrogant Seifer.
Quistis: “You are the foreman. Please, I want the most from you. “
Seifer: “Professor! I hate recommendations. If you save them for the good for nothing! “
Q: “Oh yeah, sure. Seifer, please! ”
Quistis explains that we will be team B and that she will be our coordinator. To complete the mission we will need to collaborate and help each other… Even if Seifer doesn’t seem to think that way.
Our short briefing is interrupted by the arrival of the principal Cid:
“Hi everyone, how are you? I’m principal Cid. ABCD teams for a total of 12 participants will take part in the practical exam. You will proceed to a real battlefield where a real war is underway. Life and death, victory and defeat, glory and humiliation await you. In a world, guys, you don’t know yet. Then? Nobody is afraid? Nine SeeDs will participate in the mission. They will complete the task in the event of your failure. Learn from them, follow their directions and pass the exam.
Well, now go. “
While the headmaster speaks, I observe the faces of all those around me who, like me, are preparing to take to the battlefield. Someone trembles, someone thinks, someone keeps their heads down looking for a concentration that they will probably never find. A single person has the fire in his eyes and the real desire to go and fight, in one person I see my emotions again. In Seifer. Is it possible that we are really so similar? Was it possible that Professor Quistis was really right?
I get, together with Quistis, Zell and Seifer, on the car that will take us to the port from which a ship will then take us to our destination and, during the whole journey, we are all silent, or almost. The only one who can’t keep his tongue in check is Zell, who first torments me to let him see the Gunblade, then gets up and starts warming up (he doesn’t use weapons in battle, only his fists) annoying everyone. the other 3 of us, but only Seifer tells him to stop with a sharp “stay still”, then giving him the “chanterelle” (probably by virtue of the particular hair of our new teammate). They almost come to blows before Professor Quistis manages to calm them both down.
We arrived at the port of Balamb, from where the ships that will take us to Dollet, the place of our mission, will leave. Once out of the car, I stop for a moment to stare at the ship and the sea on the horizon.
Seifer: “What is it? You’re nervous? Don’t disappoint me too! “
Seifer’s words are completely unexpected and leave me completely blown away. First because he, just like me, is not someone who likes to express thoughts or chat and second because by doing so he made me understand that he expected something from me. Almost as if to say that you are counting on me because it recognizes my work.
I am troubled …
Once on the boat we are met in the cabin by Shu, another SeeD just like Professor Quistis who finally and clearly explains the final goal of our mission-examination.
Shu: “The client is the Dollet republic. About 72 hours ago Dollet was invaded by G troops and after 49 hours of battle the Dollet leaders left the city, moving to the nearby mountains and reorganizing the army. While the G troops attack the army in the mountains, we will land on Luptan beach and defeat the remaining troops protecting the positions in the city, freeing it. “
Shu explains, finally, that while we squads take care of the city, the SeeDs will be dedicated to attacking the G (Galbadian) troops on the mountains.
Finally we disembark along the beach and the teams begin to move, each towards their destination.
Me Zell and Seifer walk the short staircase that leads from the beach to the city and as soon as we put the last step behind us, two enemy soldiers meet us. The first battle I face together with my two new adventure companions is nothing complex, the two soldiers quickly fall under the blows of Zell’s fists and my and Seifer’s Gublades. Nothing particularly complex, let’s also say that in training I found myself facing much more important threats.
We enter the city along a long avenue full of lights and shops (obviously no trace of civilians on the streets) until, passing under a bridge, we are ambushed by two other soldiers who swoop down on us from above. . But they too, like their two unfortunate comrades, quickly fall under the blows of our team. So far, so good.
Continuing along the avenue we finally reach the square with the town hall of the city, where another soldier and then another meet us as we explore the area looking for a way to continue towards our destination. Only ordinary soldiers that we take down without too many worries, while Seifer screams at the enemy his disappointment for not having yet found enemies at his level.
We remain alone, in the empty square, waiting for a while, only sporadically for the passage of some troops with whom we carefully avoid the confrontation breaks the silence; they are the orders that we have been given, but soon boredom begins to take over and Seifer “orders” us to go and see what happens there where the sounds of battle that we can hear from our position are coming from. Zell absolutely disagrees, wanting to abide by the orders that were given to us previously by Quistis, and asks me for an opinion, as if to confirm that we must stay where we are.
Squall: “It’s the foreman’s orders.”
Seifer: “The foreman’s orders ?? You too will want to break some heads, right? “
Squall: “This is the right time to see what training with you was all about! Thanks to you not even the most despicable opponent will be able to beat me. “
Seifer smiles, almost as if mine were a compliment to him …
Seifer: “Then one day you will thank me!”
Zell: “… Stop it! You two are just alike. “
Again this story, again someone saying that Seifer and I are the same …
