Take-Two hopes Red Dead Redemption 2 exceeds expectations but doesn’t forget the competition
During Take-Two Interactive Entertainment’s financial conference for investors and analysts, Executive Chairman Strauss Zelnick and Chairman Karl Slatoff discussed Red Dead Redemption 2.
You have to fight to stand out
Zelnick was asked about Take-Two’s feelings about the upcoming festive season with extremely strong competition of many titles.
We are always worried about the competition and we never take anything for granted, we never guarantee anticipated success. We do our best to create great entertainment and sell it effectively, and then we explain what happened. We have very high expectations for October with the release of Red Dead Redemption 2. We take the competition seriously and are really excited about the release.
I would like to point out that it is not necessary to look back many years when the holiday seasons were awash. People basically launched products during the holiday seasons and this company did well. So, it all comes down to quality.
Zelnick also spoke about the cross promotion between Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto V.
Rockstar Games has employed some creative techniques in cross-promotion. I think they are very excited. Social Club has a lot of members and they are fans of not only Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, but they are fans of Rockstar Games. I think it’s great that there are cross promotions.
The great mystery of online, which promises to be a success
President Karl Slatoff also mentioned that RDR2 will have “a new online experience”, but refused to give more information about it. His words seem to indicate that the online feature of the game will be different in some way from Grand Theft Auto Onlinebut at the moment we have no idea how.
Later on, Zelnick mentioned that while the success of Grand Theft Auto Online is informative for games to follow, that’s not the whole point.
The nature of our approach and specifically the nature of Rockstar Games’ approach is never derivative and always breaks expectations. My belief is that Red Dead Redemption 2 will break expectations and that the online experience will also be extraordinary, but unexpected.
My point of view is that by their very nature, successes are unexpected. That is the goal. Of course, there is an expectation from Rockstar Games and there is an expectation from consumers, but our job is to exceed these expectations and cross our fingers, that’s all we set out to do. We can’t predict and we don’t brag when it comes to Grand Theft Auto V, and we won’t brag about Red Dead Redemption 2. So we just work hard, doing the best job we can.
Red Dead Redemption 2 will be on sale on October 26 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, along with its official guide and special editions. You can already see some screenshots of this long-awaited game.
