Welcome back, Commanders! In celebration of Command & Conquer’s 25th anniversary, Electronic Arts today announced the Command & Conquer Remastered Collection, a collection of the legendary real-time strategy (RTS) games that an entire generation has grown up with. The collection will be available worldwide on June 5 for PC via Origin and Steam, and as part of the Origin Access Premier subscription. The collection includes Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn, Command & Conquer: Red Alert plus the three expansion packs – Covert Ops, Counterstrike and The Aftermath. Command & Conquer Remastered Collection is a passion project by EA and several members of the original Westwood Studios team at Petroglyph.

The Command & Conquer Remastered Collection is being developed together with the C&C community, where the project was announced as early as October 2018 to survey the community before development begins. An active community council has been involved in the project from the very beginning, with 24/7 access to the development team. The title features all-new graphics with support for 4K resolution and a soundtrack spanning over seven hours, remastered by the original composer, Frank Klepacki. The community has helped shape the game’s improvements through much-requested features such as an improved UI, updated controls, and a map editor that allows fans to showcase their creations. The multiplayer has been rebuilt from scratch to support a modern online experience, with custom games, fast 1v1 battles, Elo-rated matchmaking, leaderboards, replays and much more.

“Our team has worked hand-in-hand with the C&C community since the beginning, and we hope this transparent dialogue will help the Command & Conquer Remastered Collection become a love letter to our fans,” said Jim Vessella, Lead Producer at EA. “We’re taking the classic gameplay that ushered in a new era for the RTS genre and adding the features fans wanted most, such as Skirmish mode for Tiberian Dawn, usability improvements, and full Steam integration with UGC -support. I myself have been a C&C fan since I was 12, in 1995. To have the opportunity to work with the original people from Westwood Studios at Petroglyph was a dream come true.”

The Command & Conquer series laid the foundation for the core gameplay of the RTS genre when Command & Conquer: Tiberium Dawn was released in 1995. The world was introduced to the innovative faction system with asymmetric units and technology tree, bringing a highly strategic experience. In addition to gameplay, the series also broke new ground in the way the story was told, with its unique and frivolous full-motion video (FMV) cutscenes. This created one of the most recognizable villains in gaming history: Kane, the megalomaniac leader of The Brotherhood of Nod. In Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn, Earth is flooded with Tiberium. The GDI (Global Defense Initiative) tries to contain the material, while The Brotherhood of Nod wants to use the power, leading to an all-out war between the factions. Command & Conquer: Red Alert takes place in an alternate universe where the Soviet Union wages war against the Allies in a fun, spectacular, tactical RTS game.
The Command & Conquer Remastered Collection is being developed by Petroglyph, Lemon Sky Studios and EA, using some of the original members of the Westwood Studios team at Petroglyph. The game will be available for PC via Origin and Steam starting June 5. Origin Access Premier subscribers will also get full access to the Command & Conquer Remastered Collection on PC starting June 5 and as long as they remain subscribed.
