The Galaxy S4 benchmarks have been falsified… by Samsung itself

Samsung’s Galaxy S4 is the top-selling android device that has achieved one of the best product benchmark scores around. However, there is a “but” to consider …

Sometimes, the best word to define Samsung is not “innovative”, but “incorrect”. That’s right: the GPU benchmark score was skewed by the South Korean company to get a better score. The benchmark is a set of tests whose purpose is to measure and numerically define the power of a computer / mobile / tablet. So how did Samsung fool the tests?

The answer is provided by the GPU of Samsung’s top-of-the-range smartphone: the graphics unit PowerVR SGX 544MP3 it has a standard frequency of about 480MHz, yet, as soon as a test of any kind that measures performance is carried out, the device overclocks the GPU, that is, it increases its frequency up to 533MHz. This results in an acceleration that is only noticed by benchmarks, but not in daily use or when using a game / application.
