The Nexus 5 is available in the Play Store from 349 euros – and is already sold out again

After days of simmering in the rumor mill, it was no longer a surprise that Google presented the new Nexus 5 last night. As suspected, the new Android reference cell phone is again an interesting deal for Android fans. With immediate effect, Google is offering its new Nexus mobile phone with Android 4.4 “Kit Kat” in the Play Store from 349 euros.

While the old Nexus phones have always been equipped with fast processors, a real top CPU has rarely been used up to now. This is different with the Nexus 5: it is currently not faster than the built-in Snapdragon 800 chipset with four cores and 2.3 GHz. The same processing unit is also used in the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, LG G2 or the Sony Xperia Z1, for example.

The display has also been improved by Google’s cooperation partner LG. It now measures 4.95 inches and has a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels – i.e. Full HD. Despite the slightly larger display, the Nexus mobile phone has only grown by 4 millimeters in length, only 0.5 mm in width and even thinner in thickness. Since Google does not have a sensitive glass back on the Nexus 5, it has also significantly slimmed down, the scale now only shows 130 grams. The feel is reminiscent of that of the Nexus 7 tablets.

As before, Google does not have a microSD slot in the Nexus 5 either. To do this, the cell phone’s memory has been doubled. The Nexus 5 is now available for EUR 349 ​​with 16 GB and for EUR 399 with 32 GB in the Play Store, a variant with only 8 GB of storage space is completely missing. Compared to the sister device LG G2, the camera of the Nexus 5 only works with 8 megapixels, but it should be able to capture a lot of light and an optical image stabilizer ensures that the images are rarely blurred. Like the Moto-X cell phone from Motorola, the Nexus 5 listens continuously so that you can wake it up with “OK Google”.

Google and LG have also upgraded the new Nexus significantly in terms of wireless technology. Thanks to WLAN 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac and LTE radio, the Nexus 5 works much faster with an appropriate router or via LTE. The battery has also grown so that the device can supply the fast CPU and the larger display with power for a long enough time. With 2300 mAh, the capacity has grown by around 10 percent, thanks to optimized power saving mechanisms in Android 4.4, the Nexus 5 should last longer than its predecessor. The battery of the Nexus 5 can also be recharged wirelessly according to the Qi standard, Google also showed a corresponding charging station, but no price was given for it.

Throwing a highly coveted device on the market almost worldwide is not something – Apple has been leading the way for years. Many Android users can still remember the chaos when the Nexus 4 appeared. The first batch of devices is already out of stock on Google, if you didn’t access it on Thursday evening, you have to wait. According to Google, the delivery time for the white model with 16 GB of storage is currently two to three weeks, the black version is currently not available at all. The 32 GB version should be sent between November 8th and 15th.
