us and all the fans We hoped that this direct would serve for Square Enix to tell us more about those DLC Episodes that they announced a long time ago. and have kept in the shadows.
The truth is that so it has beenbut the news that they have given to start they have not been good at all.
Of all the stories, only one has survived
Some time ago, it was announced to everyone’s delight that we would have four new episodes throughout 2019. They would be the same as those already released on Ignis, Gladio and Prompto, but with other protagonists.
Noctis, Lunafreya, Ardyn and Aranea they would be the protagonists this time, and the truth is that we really want to know more about all these characters that have penetrated our hearts. But it will no longer be possible, or at least not with everyone.
Akio Ofuji, Global Brand Director of FFXV, has been in charge of presenting the livestream. And it was he who declared that after a “directional change” at Square Enixthe company has re-examined these projects about the game and has determined that they should cancel production of three of the DLCs.
These three episodes will not see the light will be those of Lunafreya, Noctis and Aranea. That is to say, the only one that we will finally see will be the Episode Ardyn, and it will be the last additional content that the game will receive.
Considering that he is the most unknown main character, it is not surprising that they left him if they had to choose one.
The development team “regrets” that they can’t release the episodes that fans want so much, but they hope they can understand it and try the game. episode of Ardyn, which will be out in March 2019.
Tabata will open its own studio to continue creating games
But you may be wondering what has been this “directional change” that has disrupted so many plans in the game. Well, it turns out that, as revealed in the same livestream, Hajime Tabata has left Square Enix.
We understand that this has changed everything since Tabata is the Director of Final Fantasy XV and has spearheaded its DLCs. But not only has he left Square Enix, but Tabata has also left Luminous Productions to found his own company..
Tabata has shared a letter explaining this decision:
To everyone watching this show: Hi, I’m Tabata.
Almost two whole years have passed since the release of FFXV. I honestly think the reason we were able to get this far has been you, all the loyal fans. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Today, I have a personal announcement to make to all of you. I, Hajime Tabata, resigned from Luminous Productions and Square Enix Group on October 31, 2018.
I have GAINED a lot of experience DURING MY JOB at Square Enix. Every title I’ve been a part of means a lot to me. However, FFXV stood out from the pack as it was a special project for me that I put everything into. Therefore, I have decided to take this opportunity to officially announce my departure from FFXV to all the fans who have been supporting the title across the planet.
As for my next endeavors and near future, I have a project that I really want to solidify as my next challenge after FFXV. For that reason, I have decided to leave my current position and start my own business to achieve my goal.
As production on Episode Ardyn continues and Luminous Productions works on new projects, I feel like it was time for me to hand the torch over to the next generation group of talented and awesome colleagues, and I’m sure they’ll create something amazing.
From this day on, I will cheer on and support Square Enix and Luminous Productions together with all the fans. I would like to thank everyone who continues to support FFXV and those who have supported me personally.
The rest of the projects in Square Enix and Luminous
Speaking of Luminous Productions, these radical changes are actually good for them. Is it so working on a “new AAA title” for Square Enixand Ofuji has assured that the cancellation of the Final Fantasy XV DLCs means that there will be more resources to focus on completing and releasing this mysterious title in a timely manner.
This mysterious Luminous project has been added to Square Enix’s long list of great projects. They’re also working on an unannounced shooter with People Can Fly, and Babylon’s Fall with PlatinumGames. On the other hand, and although sometimes we forget about it, there is also that project about The Avengers about which they have a hard time sharing information.
Even so, and although we may think that everything is going well, Tabata’s departure is an important change in the company and we will have to wait to see the repercussions it has.
