Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment unleash DC Comics’ most deadly villains in Gotham City with the launch of Batman: Arkham Origins. The latest game in the blockbuster Batman: Arkham video game franchise is available for PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360 games and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows PC, with the Wii U system version available on November 1. As of today, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate for PlayStation Vita handheld entertainment system and Nintendo 3DS handheld system is also available.
Batman: Arkham Origins, developed by WB Games Montreal, is based on DC Comics’ main Batman license. The game features the expanded city of Gotham City and introduces an original storyline set several years before Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, the first two critically acclaimed games of the franchise. Set before the rise of Gotham City’s most dangerous criminals, the game depicts a young and inexperienced Batman who faces a defining moment in his early career as a crime fighter, setting him on the path to becoming the Dark Knight.
Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, the complementary game to Batman: Arkham Origins, is a 2.5-D handheld game developed by Armature Studio. The game brings the Batman Arkham experience, such as FreeFlow combat and Batman’s infamous gadgets, to PlayStation®Vita handheld entertainment system and Nintendo handheld format for the first time. In Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, players can continue the storyline of the console version and discover more details about the Dark Knight’s past.
“Acquiring the Batman: Arkham franchise is a big responsibility and the WB Games Montréal team is committed to giving players an experience worthy of the name,” said Reid Schneider, Vice President and Executive Producer, WB Games Montréal. “Batman: Arkham Origins allows fans to play the game with a new take on the Batman character, while experiencing enhanced gameplay mechanics.”
Batman: Arkham Origins takes place on Christmas Eve where Batman is hunted by eight assassins from the DC Comics Universe. Players will experience a new take on iconic Batman characters such as The Joker, Black Mask, Penguin, Deathstroke, Bane, Deadshot, Copperhead and others yet to be revealed.
New to the franchise is the online multiplayer mode, developed by Splash Damage. Friends and enemies can play online in 3v3v2 gameplay that mixes traditional Arkham gameplay with third-person shooter mechanics. Gamers can hunt as Batman or Robin against the most challenging opponents yet – friends and other online gamers – or cross over to the dark side as a Super-Villain Elite and join the ranks of The Joker or Bane. Players who take on the role of a Super-Villain Elite will have the opportunity to take control of The Joker or Bane for a limited amount of time.
Players looking to expand their gameplay experience can purchase the Batman: Arkham Origins Season Pass for $19.99 and receive $30 worth of content. The Season Pass consists of five downloadable content packs yet to be released, along with two exclusive skins, new content for the Batman Arkham Initiation Pack, and an all-new story campaign. The contents of the Initiation Pack will test Bruce Wayne’s detection, evasion and confrontation skills in the mysterious temple located high in the Paektusan Mountains in Korea. Here his best teacher, Grandmaster Kirigi, holds one last lesson. The Season Pass is available through PlayStation Network, Microsoft’s Xbox Live online entertainment network, Nintendo eShop and Steam.
