Wireless internet in Thalys

Wireless internet in Thalys

A test is currently underway to provide passengers of the high-speed train Thalys with a wireless LAN connection in the train. The company 21Net itself says that it is the first provider that tries to establish a satellite connection from a train. The speed of the connection is around 4Mbit download and an upload of about 2Mbit. A problem with satellites and the internet in trains is that the magnetic field of the overhead wires can sometimes cause disruptions. It is not yet known whether the connection will be maintained if the train goes through a tunnel. The use of the connection is currently still free, but in the future people will have to pay by means of prepaid cards or online transfers. If this test is successful, all 28 trains between Brussels and Paris will have access to WLAN.
