Electronic Arts Inc., the global leader in interactive entertainment, today announced the versatility and depth of gameplay of EA SPORTS FIFA 08 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system. The game offers a total football experience that sublimely matches the complexity, finesse and splendor of the real football world. FIFA 08 challenges players to learn the skills needed to play football like a pro. Fans worldwide can experience the ups and downs of real players and face the challenges that pros face every day. In FIFA 08, you have to prove yourself on the pitch: perfect your skills, take your game to the next level and lead your club to victory.

FIFA 08’s gameplay engine is specifically designed for the power of the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION®3. Thanks to the realistic animations and precise ball control, it feels like you are on the field yourself. The computer players in FIFA 08 are controlled by an artificial intelligence with an advanced engine that determines player behavior based on 35 points. Because players take multiple factors into account in their decisions, their reactions are very realistic. The artificial intelligence dynamically maps threats so that the tension and sensation of football in the game are well reflected. Players are now aware of their environment and they react realistically to threats and opportunities. They take all these factors into account when making intelligent football decisions.

FIFA 08’s shooting system gives you even more control and precision in front of goal, allowing you to take goals like a marksman. The full-fledged next-gen shot engine calculates the success of a shot based on a virtually infinite combination of factors, including ball effect, defender pressure, player characteristics and even air pressure. All this results in dramatic shots that are unique every time.

In FIFA 08, fans experience for the first time the pressure real footballers feel every day to work on their game and skills. In the new Play As Pro mode, you play as a football player and are challenged to learn the same skills as real football players: from playmaking and tackles to game overview and passing.

“This is the second step in FIFA’s next-gen development. Last year we took the game to next-gen with the introduction of a new engine and stunning ball physics. This year, we are introducing new gameplay and new modes and putting more emphasis on the finesse of football,” said Andrew Wilson, executive producer of FIFA 08. “Play Like Pro mode requires the player to think and react like a professional footballer. Players experience all the emotions that football players have to deal with during a match. This feature, combined with improvements to the gameplay engine, delivers on our promise of even more realistic football gameplay.”

FIFA 08 also introduces a skill move system designed specifically for next-gen consoles. The organic system allows players to combine tricks and skills. This allows them to imitate typical movements of real football stars or develop their own playing style. Player animations can be paused at any time and then transition seamlessly into another movement, allowing players to respond to defense just like in real matches. Only if you master enough skills to break through the defense and pass your opponent can you lead your team to victory.

The award-winning Interactive Leagues mode, introduced in FIFA 07, is now being introduced for the first time for Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3. Fight for your club all season long against rival clubs in the English Premier League, the German Bundesliga, the French League or Mexican 1st Division. Play every match they play.

“The Interactive Leagues are the most successful online tournaments ever in the FIFA series and I’m thrilled that we’re now implementing them in this year’s next-gen games. I am a Leeds United fan and it was particularly painful for me that Manchester United won the first interactive competition, the Premier League, last season. I expect we’ll straighten things out this year in FIFA 08,” said Joe Booth, producer of FIFA 08 on Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3. players through our podcast in the game. We are now more than a million downloads further. It’s a great way to interact with other fans, share experiences and answer questions.”

FIFA 08 is more realistic and intense than ever before, featuring a whopping 620 licensed teams, 30 leagues and over 15,000 players. This makes the game 20% larger than FIFA 07 on current-gen consoles.

FIFA 08 is being developed by EA Canada in Vancouver, Canada. The game will be released worldwide this fall for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system, the Wii, the Nintendo DS, the PSP (PlayStation®Portable), PC and mobile . In the coming weeks, EA will announce the specifics of the versions for the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system, the Wii, the Nintendo DS, the PSP, PC and mobile.
