We are already officially in the second half of 2020, which indicates that there are only a few months to go before the launch of the next generation of consoles.
This time, with games that come to both the “old” and the “new” generation, can leave the player a little confused: after all, it’s better to play on the console I already have, or wait a bit until I have a console from new generation?
The Smart Delivery service
THE Microsoft — which in recent years has been putting on a show in terms of service provision -, will solve this problem through the Smart Delivery. This service will ensure that you only need to buy certain games once, with the “upgrade” guaranteed by Microsoft!
According to the official release:
“What does this mean to you, the player? That means if you buy the version Xbox one of a supported title, we will deliver the best version for the Xbox one, as usual. If you decide to jump to the next generation with the Xbox Series X, we will automatically provide the game version of Xbox Series X at no additional cost when it is available. You don’t need to do anything in terms of choosing a version to download. We will take care of all this. And it’s not just limited to games you buy digitally; the physical game discs of Xbox also support the Smart Delivery if the developer or publisher decides to implement it”.
Even games already available for the Xbox one, like Gears 5 and Destiny 2, will support the system Smart Delivery, with upgrade to the new generation guaranteed. Another good news is that compatible games that are available on the service Game Pass (like the own Gears 5) will also be guaranteed to upgrade in the next generation!
The service will include some well-awaited titles, as per the information in the Microsoft:
“When the Infinite Halo is released to Series X and Xbox one this holiday season, you’ll only need to buy the game once and you’ll get the best version for the console you own, or both. If you choose the Xbox Series X to your living room, the Smart Delivery will recognize this and provide the optimized version there. If you decide to move the Xbox one existing for a bedroom or office, the Smart Delivery will also recognize this and provide this version when you are playing on Xbox one“.
“Finally, some new and existing titles from Xbox one will optimize their games after the release of Xbox Series X. For example, if you buy the cyberpunk 2077 when it comes out on September 17th, it will be ready to explore. night city at the Xbox one. If you take the Xbox Series X at launch this holiday season, you’ll be able to play it in compatibility mode too, right where you left off. So when the CD PROJEKT RED deliver an optimized version for Xbox Series X of cyberpunk 2077, you will have your game automatically updated, when the upgrade is available, at no additional cost”.
Well, which games will be compatible with the feature Smart Delivery? With the word, the Microsoft:
“Below you will find the initial list of new and existing titles that will be optimized for the Xbox Series X and confirmed to support the Smart Delivery — in addition to the thousands of games you can bring to the Xbox Series X via backward compatibility on day one.”
- Infinite Halo
- cyberpunk 2077
- Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

- DiRT 5
- Scarlet Nexus
- Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2
- Yakuza: Like a Dragon
- The Ascent

Quite an idea, don’t you think? It’s not today that the Microsoft is concerned about the ecosystem Xbox as a whole, and the fact that its main competitor advertises a console with no disk input only confirms that the company has made the right bets. You already know if you’re going to PS5 or X Series X in the next generation?
O Xbox Series X will be released later this year, with no confirmed release date or price yet.
