Violent protests stop Apple’s supplier Foxconn

Apple supplier Foxconn was forced to suspend its operations in Vietnam for three days after violent protests erupted.

Foxconn on Friday said:

The protests erupted after news that a Chinese company had begun to extract oil in territory claimed by both Vietnam and Taiwan but controlled by China.

According to an unnamed Foxconn official, Chinese and Taiwanese executives have returned to their countries to avoid problems, although there are no reports of damage to the company’s manufacturing sites.

Unfortunately, hundreds of companies in Vietnam, despite having no connection in this matter, have been affected. Taiwanese producers in particular have been hit hardest, with at least 200 factories looted and burned.
